Natural Herbs That Heal-Honey Is Sooo Sweet!

Oct 10, 2008 Author: kimmy47 | Filed under: Uncategorized

When I was a child and would get a cold or a cough, my grandmother who was the queen of home remedies would give me a homemade cough syrup made of boiled whiskey, honey and lemon juice. It worked like a charm and was much better than the cough syrups that you find on the market today. Since I started looking into natural herbs and supplements further, I found that honey has a great potential to heal and prevent lots of other respiratory problems including allergic rhinitis if taken on a regular basis.

Please be aware that there are many types of honey and in order to get the benefit from it for your allergies you need to purchase honey that is made from bees that are from the same area that you live in. This is due to the bees will be making their honey out of the same flora and pollens that you are breathing in and having issues with. The honey has small manageable amounts of the offending pollens in it. Taking 2 teaspoons of local honey allows the body to build up an immunity to the allergens that are causing issues.

A study was done recently to see the efficacy of honey as a natural herb on bacterial infections in large skin wounds. It was placed on the dressings then studied to see its effect. They found that the honey helped to heal the wounds and also reduced the inflammation and the scarring of the wounds. They also found that the honey rapidly killed any infection in the wounds and kept any further infection from occurring. This is a great thing that mainstream medicine has found! Of course our holistic practitioners have known these facts for some time now

Honey can be placed on a bee sting. It will break down the protein in the venom and reduce the inflammation in the sting. I learned this from a beekeeper I knew a few years ago when one of my children was stung. As a natural herb, honey has many practical uses in herbal medince and should be kept in every household for use when needed.

Natural Herbs That Heal-Garlic

Oct 8, 2008 Author: kimmy47 | Filed under: Uncategorized

Garlic is used in every one’s kitchen. Who does not cook with garlic? I would imagine there are very few women who do not, if there are any? However, how many people use garlic as a healing herb? Garlic is a natural herb and is also considered a nourishing herb. It can be used freely, meaning it can be used in cooking and also as a supplement without worry of taking in too much of the herb. In herbal medicine in years past, garlic has been widely used to treat a number of problems. In fact over 2300 years ago Hippocrates, wise man that he was stated “let your food be your medicine.” There are references that show that garlic has been used for as long as 3,000 years in Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat illness and dysfunction. Ancient Egyptians believed that it kept evil spirits away and even buried garlic with their dead Pharaohs.

Historically garlic has been used to cure infections, treat gastric disorders and upsets, combat heart disease, treat wounds and even was used to cure leprosy. It was widely used during World War I to treat battle wounds and to combat infection in the wounds. Garlic today can be used in herbal medicine to combat problems with the circulatory system including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and to prevent heart disease. It is also used to improve the immune system in order to keep from succumbing to upper respiratory illness such as colds.

Garlic is a great supplement and a wonderful natural herb that heals. It can be used on a daily basis and is highly recommended in order to prevent circulatory problems in the future or to boost the immune system. If you feel that you are at risk of these things, it would be wise to consider giving garlic a try. As with all things that are in alternative medicine, if you have any type of chronic illness and are being treated or on medications, check with your physician before trying or adding herbs to your regimen.

Herbal Medicine-Herbs That Heal

Oct 6, 2008 Author: kimmy47 | Filed under: Uncategorized

Herbal medicine has been used for hundreds if not thousands of years. Native Americans were experts in use of plants and herbs for many purposes. Using them for cooking and medicinal purposes were only two ways that they wisely used plants and other things found in nature’s bounty. They learned how to prepare these plants to make them into natural herbs that heal. This is way they kept themselves healthy and hearty. We have gotten away from using those simple things and now depend on chemicals or a pill from the doctor to instantly make us all better as soon as get we get a sniffle. It is time to get back to nature and to relearn what our ancestors knew and wisely used in order to stay healthy!

I learned many years ago while working in the health care field that medicine is not an exact science. There is much that medical doctors do not know. There are many times that they just get lucky or use people as guinea pigs for the next “greatest” pil out there for their disease or problem. Well, after suffering through a chronic illness for the past eight years, I can tell you I am a bit sick of having tried this and that only to have it cause me more problems. I have found that there are many natural herbs and vitamin supplements which help me more than half those drugs did.

What is even more interesting is that they have little or no side effects! This week I will be discussing herbal medicine and reviewing most of the common food substances and natural herbs that are used commonly around the household but may not be known for their healing properties. I will give you the health benefits and any side effects that might apply for each natural herb or substance that I review. Tune in this week for some neat information!

Valerian Root As A Sleep Aid and Muscle Relaxant

Oct 3, 2008 Author: kimmy47 | Filed under: Uncategorized

I have had problems with back pain for years now. I hate taking muscle relaxers as most of them make me feel either strange or make me sleepy. I have been looking for a natural alternative to these and have been very pleasantly suprised by using a combination of Valerian Root and Passion Flower. In addition to the muscle relaxant qualities, it does help me sleep at night

I also have problems with insomnia so that was a big relief to find. I have tried several different things to help me sleep including most of the over the counter remedies which are al diphenhyrdamine or Benadryl.  None of them really did anything for me other than dry out my sinuses and my nose and mouth.

I found a great combination of this herb at Wonder Labs that works very well for me. It is a combination of Valerian Root, Passiflora and Magnesium Carbonate. It does not make me sleepy if I take it during the daytime. I usually take 2 at a time during the day and 3 at bedtime. I can tell a big difference in my muscle cramps since starting this regimen!
