Reviews on herbal supplements and vitamins telling you whats hot and whats not
When I was a child and would get a cold or a cough, my grandmother who was the queen of home remedies would give me a homemade cough syrup made of boiled whiskey, honey and lemon juice. It worked like a charm and was much better than the cough syrups that you find on the market today. Since I started looking into natural herbs and supplements further, I found that honey has a great potential to heal and prevent lots of other respiratory problems including allergic rhinitis if taken on a regular basis.
Please be aware that there are many types of honey and in order to get the benefit from it for your allergies you need to purchase honey that is made from bees that are from the same area that you live in. This is due to the bees will be making their honey out of the same flora and pollens that you are breathing in and having issues with. The honey has small manageable amounts of the offending pollens in it. Taking 2 teaspoons of local honey allows the body to build up an immunity to the allergens that are causing issues.
A study was done recently to see the efficacy of honey as a natural herb on bacterial infections in large skin wounds. It was placed on the dressings then studied to see its effect. They found that the honey helped to heal the wounds and also reduced the inflammation and the scarring of the wounds. They also found that the honey rapidly killed any infection in the wounds and kept any further infection from occurring. This is a great thing that mainstream medicine has found! Of course our holistic practitioners have known these facts for some time now
Honey can be placed on a bee sting. It will break down the protein in the venom and reduce the inflammation in the sting. I learned this from a beekeeper I knew a few years ago when one of my children was stung. As a natural herb, honey has many practical uses in herbal medince and should be kept in every household for use when needed.

I never knew honey was effective on bee stings. Interesting, I’ll have to try it out, hopefully not sometimes soon!

That’s pretty fascinating about putting it externally on wounds. I knew that it was good to coughs and such. Last winter I made a cough syrup using honey and ginger and some other items. It really helped. Good post!
